Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County has launched two new free on-demand transit services. Ride Gunbarrel provides service in all of the Gunbarrel community. Ride SouthEast provides service in Superior, Louisville, Lafayette, and parts of Erie. Ride SouthEast also services the Flatiron Mall in Broomfield, allowing for travel between all of these communities.

Together these two services will be known as Ride BoCo. The Ride BoCo services are now available.

“Boulder County is deeply committed to public transportation through our 25-year Transportation Master Plan,” said Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin. "We are delighted to launch Ride Gunbarrel and Ride SouthEast in Boulder County. These on-demand buses offer a free-to-use service that bridges the public transportation gap in areas without fixed bus routes. These buses create more opportunities for people to get where they need to be, whether that’s work, the doctor’s office, or grocery shopping.”

"We're extremely excited to celebrate the launch of the free, on-demand Ride BoCo transit services,” said John Tayer, Boulder Chamber President and CEO. “Having been conceived through our Boulder Together program over 5 years ago, we are thankful to the partnership with the Gunbarrel business community, Boulder County, the City of Boulder and RTD for working with us to bring this innovative and convenient transit service to the Gunbarrel community. Ride Gunbarrel will provide a critical first- and last-mile connection to over 9,800 employees and 11,500 residents in the Gunbarrel area. This is how we make transit commuting convenient and efficient for our regional workforce."

What Is an On-Demand Bus Service?

Unlike a traditional fixed route bus service with designated bus stops, on-demand bus services can take people from anywhere to anywhere within a specific area. For both Ride Gunbarrel and Ride SouthEast, trips can be booked the day before or on the day of service. On-demand bus services can also be a good way to connect to and from fixed route services, like the Flatiron Flyer, BOLT, AB and AL.
